Only way is ‘Up’ for Hippodrome

The Hippodrome Cinema in Bo’ness is amongst the first cinemas in the country to be screening the new Disney/Pixar animation feature ‘Up’  this weekend.

Labour Councillor Adrian Mahoney, the convener of leisure, tourism and community at Falkirk Council, said: "The Bo’ness Hippodrome has shown lots of new films since it re-opened in April – but ‘Up’ is the first film to open at the revamped cinema on its very first day of UK general release.

"We’re delighted that our friends at Disney are giving us this great family film for the first two weeks of its run, just in time for the October school break.

"It’s a fantastic animated adventure that offers something for all the family. We hope it will be a huge hit with local film fans."

Councillor Mahoney said the Hippodrome schedule had been cleared for the next fortnight to screen "Up" – with Jeely Jar matinee screenings this Saturday (October 11) and on Saturday, October 17.

"With a £2 a ticket price tag for the two Jeely jar screenings – and family tickets available for other shows – we must be one of the best value venues in Scotland to see ‘Up’," said Councillor Mahoney. "I’m sure the cinema will be busy this weekend, so please turn up early or book in advance.

‘Up’ leads a bright autumn programme for the Hippodrome – Scotland’s first purpose-built cinema. Future films include ‘Dorian Gray’, ‘Inglourious Basterds’, ‘The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus’, ‘Fame’, and ‘Julie and Julia’.

The pre-art deco building in Hope Street, Bo’ness, is owned by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust. It has been revamped in a £2 million project and is now operated by Falkirk Council.

Said Councillor Mahoney: "We’re building lots of regular customers who tell me they love coming to this cinema and enjoy the wide variety of movies we show. This place oozes the glamour of the early days of cinema-going – but we also have some of the latest technology to give you a great, modern-day movie experience in an historic building.

"Hopefully we can continue to grow our audiences. The only way is Up!"

‘Up’ (cert. U) (2-D) opens at The Hippodrome Bo’ness and across Scotland on Friday 9th October and plays until Thursday 22nd October. Full programme, screening times and ticket prices from the venue or visit http://www.falkirk.gov.uk/hippodrome. Tel. box office: 01324 506850.
