Roman site featured on new banknote

KINNEIL Roman Fortlet in Bo’ness features on a new £50 banknote, which went into circulation today (Monday, November 2.)

The new note is part of a series from the Clydesdale Bank, featuring World Heritage Sites around Scotland and prominent Scots. The fortlet in Bo’ness is part of the Roman Antonine Wall.

Labour Councillor Adrian Mahoney, the convener of leisure, tourism and community at Falkirk Council, said: “The new banknote features the Roman Fortlet at Kinneil Estate in Bo’ness and a stretch of the wall at Rough Castle, near Bonnybridge. This certainly puts the Falkirk district area on the map and I hope that more people will come and visit as a result. The more £50 notes they bring with them to spend, the better!"

He added: "I’d like to thank Clydesdale Bank for highlighting our heritage in this way and wish them every success with its new series of World Heritage Site bank notes."

Clydesdale Bank’s new world heritage note collection showcases the best of Scotland’s heritage, people and culture, and is the first time in more than 20 years the Bank has launched a completely new set of notes.
